Take a look at some of the most successful television programs around the world and you'll see a common ingredient... food.

No matter how different a culture is from another, food transcends virtually everything; geography, religion, age, gender, politics... And while our tastes and preferences might be vastly different, our need for food is the same. That need, for many cultures and communities around the world, has transformed into an ever expanding fascination. We write about food, make art out of food, produce movies about food, the United States has a whole television channel dedicated to food!

Media Meatballs takes a global look at the world’s affection for food and how it’s depicted in the media. While Jonathan Gold, of LA Weekly, writes one of the most influential food columns in Los Angeles, Park Seo-Yeon, also known as The Diva of South Korea, is making a more-than-comfortable living producing ‘muk-bang’ or ‘eating-broadcasts’ watched by thousands.

Food can feed the belly, the mind and the soul. What people eat paints a picture of the places they’ve gone, the experiences they’ve had, how they were brought up and how they want to live. The media is able to capture the nuances of a culture that may otherwise have been missed by extensive audiences. Regardless of what some might say of the gluttonous trends of what we like to call delicious media, it keeps its audience relentlessly curious and teaches us to eat with out prejudice.

Join Media Meatballs as we explore unwatched programs, dissect the massively popular articles and try our hand at recipes we’ve picked up from the world’s delicious media.
